SIXT Car Rental in Munich

Munich is one of Europe's most rewarding cities to explore by car — and for travellers arriving from the UAE, having a rental vehicle ready from the moment you land makes all the difference. Pick up your car at Munich Airport, Munich Central Station, or at a central city branch, and set off at your own pace. Express check-in, mobile return, and free cancellation make the whole experience as smooth as your journey deserves.

What vehicle categories does SIXT offer in Munich?

  • SUV: Built for Bavaria's varied terrain — equally comfortable on city streets and Alpine foothills routes.
  • Station wagon: Generous boot space for families or longer stays, with the comfort to handle full days on the road.
  • Convertible: The ideal choice for sunny Bavarian days and scenic countryside drives.

How much does renting a car in Munich cost?

Rental rates in Munich depend on several factors. All prices are displayed in EUR at the time of booking.

  • Rental duration: Longer rentals typically offer more competitive daily rates.
  • Pick-up and return location: Rates at airport and central city branches may vary slightly.
  • Prepaid rate: Paying in advance when you book often unlocks discounted pricing.

Car rental in Munich: extras & protection packages

  • Add-ons such as navigation systems, child seats, or an additional driver give you greater flexibility throughout your trip.
  • Choose from a range of protection packages to match the level of coverage that suits your journey.

All available options can be viewed and compared during the online booking process.

Driving tips for Munich

Local tips & traffic rules at a glance

  • Speed limits: The standard urban limit in Munich is 50 km/h, with 30 km/h zones in residential streets. Always follow posted signs.
  • Environmental zone: All SIXT rental cars carry the required green environmental sticker, so you can drive freely through Munich's low-emission zone.
  • Traffic: Rush-hour congestion is common, particularly on the Mittlerer Ring and around Munich Central Station. Plan accordingly.
  • Driving licence: Your UAE driving licence is accepted for car rental in Germany, as it contains information in both Arabic and English. No International Driving Permit (IDP) is required.

Parking in Munich

Paid parking and time restrictions apply across most of the city centre. A little planning goes a long way.

  • Parking garages: Several well-placed garages serve the city centre, including options near Stachus and the pedestrian zones.
  • Park-and-ride: On busy days — particularly during major trade fairs such as Oktoberfest or Bauma — P+R facilities on the outskirts offer a practical alternative to driving into the centre.

Fuelling up in Munich

Fill up before re-entering the city from the motorway for the best pump prices. Fuel tends to be more affordable mid-week and in the evenings.

Tip: No time to refuel before your return? The optional SIXT fuel service lets you hand the car back without stopping at a petrol station.

Toll system

Germany does not apply a general toll for passenger cars. Some bridges and tunnels in the Alpine region carry a usage fee. If you plan to drive across borders into Austria or Switzerland, toll or vignette requirements will apply — check the relevant rules before your trip.

The rental process was quick and excellent. The lady at the reception and the lady at the return where both professional and friendly. The efficiency and short time of both delivery and return process are worth noting. They did not have the Station car we have reserved, so the lady at the rental desk looked carefully for options and gave us an upgrade Estate that suited perfectly our needs including 4WD that avoided the need of carrying chains or ski rack. Yes, some reviews are correct that you have to walk about 100 mts to the delivery point and that you have to know the return point which is different form the delivery, but the directions they gave us with a little map and the exact address of the return garage entry, which has clear SIXT signs, where perfect and the whole process was easy. I will consider renting again from this station in Munich.
