Traffic rules
- Arc de Triomphe roundabout: Cars entering have priority over those already on it. This is the opposite of the UAE and of most French roundabouts.
- Limited traffic zone (LTZ): Through traffic is banned in the LTZ in central Paris. Only local journeys are allowed.
- Low-emission zone: Paris has a low-emission zone that requires a Crit'Air sticker. Ask at pick-up whether your car carries one.
Road conditions and navigation
Main roads and motorways are well maintained. The Boulevard Périphérique ring road is busiest at rush hour, so plan longer journeys around it.
Use GPS navigation, as pedestrian zones and short-term restrictions change often.
Parking
Most drivers use public underground garages near the main landmarks.

Good to know when renting in Paris
You must have a valid driver’s license and an ID or passport to rent a car. Those with a license using a non-Roman alphabet like Japanese or Greek must also present an international driving permit.
It is allowed to rent a car one way between SIXT locations in Paris for no extra fee. One-way rentals are also allowed between stations in France for an additional fee.
You must be at least 18 years old and have held a valid driver’s license for at least 2 years to rent a car from SIXT in France. Some car categories may have a higher rental age, and an underage driver fee applies to those under 25.
